What Is A Karastan Rug?

Karastan Rugs have been famous since 1928 for their superior quality and resemblance to handmade rugs. It’s hard to tell the difference from a handmade rug to a karastan rug, since the knots show the weave on the reverse side of the rug so perfectly well.
Wool is used for these rugs and the quality of the rug is determined by the number of knots, the more the number of knots per square inch the better the quality. A normal rug would have a minimum of 300 knots per square inch. This extends up to 750 knots for higher quality rugs.

The karastan rugs are made of wool that is dyed in different colors using the juice of plants and hence they are very durable and beautiful to look at. It can be used as a home furnishing piece because it is such a beautiful piece of art. They come in various designs and shapes to suit your home décor. You will not believe your eyes when your home is all dressed up with the karastan rugs all in place.

The Karastan rug stole the show in 1933-34 at the World’s Fair in Chicago. The rug was spread out on the floor at the fair and all the visitors were allowed to walk on it. After a long number of hours one half of the rug was cleaned by the crew in front of all the onlookers. The rug became as good as new once again. To avoid any doubt in the minds of the people, the process was repeated once again. This surely brought the rug up to the winning position at the Fair.
